About Airisu


I’m Iris Mathews the founder of AIRISU (which in Japanese means IRIS). I support healing and helpful ideas that support people’s lives; I believe in honesty and integrity and what’s happening in you is much more important than what is happening around you.

 I have always wanted to help and encourage others with their health and emotional well-being.  I worked for the National Health Service in Community Health, Health Promotion and Mental Health, where I worked with victims and survivors of the Northern Ireland Conflict who were dealing with Trauma and PTSD.

I discovered complimentary therapies in the 1990’s when I was introduced to Reiki by a colleague; I took my Reiki training to Master - Teacher level and for 20 plus years have been delivering my healing practice to people and animals.

I love sharing and delivering Reiki training to individuals and small groups. I have also trained in Kinesiology, Quantum Touch, Sound Massage, Body Talk, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Foot and Body therapies, Mindfulness, Stress and Relaxation Techniques.  

After leaving the Health Service and before moving to France I ran my own holistic therapy clinic in Northern Ireland. Though delivering holistic therapy sessions I realised just how many people were suffering from Anxiety, Stress, Trauma and Secondary Trauma and how much their bodies held onto the Stress and Trauma which resulted in numerous health issues.

My practice is designed to assist clients to deal with these issues.

I don't use just one modality in an individual treatment.  I develop a bespoke health approach that addresses Body, Mind, Spirit and Emotions enabling your body to Relax, Rejuvenate and Re-balance. 

I regularly assist clients to work through stress, anxiety, confidence and self-esteem issues, fatigue and chronic pain. Clients may present with sleeping problems or at times feeling totally out of balance and we work together to address muscular aches and pains, stress, anxiety, hormonal imbalances and promote better sleep patterns and mental clarity. 

I regularly use my healing Reiki practice successfully on animals, dogs, cats and horses. 

 While I live in France, you can still access AIRISU’s treatments through distance healing via Zoom, telephone or other social media platforms.

Kinesiology

This type of holistic therapy uses gentle muscle monitoring techniques to measure the flow of energy through the body and identify areas of imbalance. This is followed up by a range of treatments – lymphatic massage, electrical balancing, nutrition and emotional techniques to correct the imbalances.

Reiki Healing

Reiki is a beautiful gentle energy healing experience which treats the whole person including body, emotions and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of healing, it works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Reiki Healing has also a number of benefits for pets by relieving anxiety and stress, sense of well-being, pain relief, promotes their overall health and wellness.

Quantum Touch Energy Healing

Quantum Touch is a powerful quantum energy healing technique which directs healing energy using touch, breathing exercises and self-awareness. Using the Chi (life force energy) of both the practitioner and client bringing them into harmony to allow the body to heal itself. Using this energy medicine can help re-balance the body and improve wellbeing.

Head Therapy

 A variety of movements are used to relieve your accumulated tension and stimulate your circulation as well as reduce any stress or fatigue and to improve your mental clarity. 

This treatment is also great for healthy hair, headache sufferers, eyes and sinuses and general stress reduction and relaxation

Soothing Soles

We often forget about our feet, even though they carry our bodies every day and we put them under tremendous pressure. Stress and anxiety can often manifest in painful foot symptoms.

I offer a soothing foot treatment using acupressure techniques and a small wooden stick to decongest and stimulate energy pathways which rebalance and rejuvenate your body’s natural healing flow. Your feet are then wrapped in hot towels and to complete the treatment the tips of each toe are held for a few minutes which induces a deep state of relaxation.  

Emotional Freedom Techniques

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a powerful holistic healing technique that has been proven to effectively resolve a range of issues, including stress, anxiety, phobias, emotional disorders, chronic pain, addiction, weight control and limiting beliefs – just to name a few! EFT is based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology. 

Tapping with your fingertips on specific meridian endpoints of your body while focusing on negative emotions or physical sensations helps to calm your nervous system, rewire your brain to respond in healthier ways and restore the body’s balance of energy.

Singing Bowl

According to Eastern ideas, man was created out of sound i.e. he is sound. If a human being is “in tune” with themselves and their environment, then they can arrange their life freely and creatively.

Sound therapy is the sound and vibrations of the singing bowl which is placed with care on your fully clothed body in an atmosphere of safety and security. This makes it possible for you to let go, release stress, anxiety, worry, doubt and any feelings that have a negative effect on your health.

Gentle and harmonious sounds from the singing bowl are absorbed quickly leading to deep relaxation. The rhythmic sound vibrations are transmitted to your body and produce a subtle vibration which has a kind of massage element, significantly reducing stress and anxiety and giving a feeling of deep relaxation. Sound therapy is also useful in providing pain relief and reducing other serious health obstacles.

Here at Loire Writers Retreat we believe the simple things in life are always the best. After posting some pictures of my Irish Potato Bread Farls some of our followers have requested the recipe saying they have fond memories of their parents and grandparents making potato bread farls. After years of cooking and following our Mum's recipes, which were passed to her from our Grandmother; I discovered the secret ingredient that was never written down in any recipe but went into all their cooking - it was prepared and 'cooked with Love', passion; care and intention. Soul food which hugged and comforted you making their food always tasting delicious. In the words of Sophia Loren: "The most indispensable ingredient of all home cooking: love for those you are cooking for. This recipe for Irish Potato Farls only requires your leftover potatoes (spuds), a little flour and butter, a griddle or frying pan. It takes about 20 minutes of preparation time and 10 minutes to cook. INGREDIENTS: 450g cooked potatoes 55g butter 110g self-raising flour 1/2 pinch salt Method: Heat a flat griddle, or heavy based frying pan Mash your potatoes, add flour, butter and salt until a stiff dough forms Turn your dough onto a lightly floured surface: Knead the dough lightly and roll out to about 1cm thick. Cut into triangular wedges Add flour to your griddle or pan and working in batches cook the farls turning once until golden brown 4 - 5 minutes each side. TIPS: You can also purpose boil your potatoes I use a fork for ,fixing the ingredients Make a large batch and freeze them Serve them with sauage, bacon and fried egg - this will soon gather a group around for their 'Ulster fry' breakfast, brunch. You can tweak this recipe to suit the tastes of your family. BON APPÉTIT
